NEW LONDON—There’s more than just beer brewing at the Goat Ridge Brewing Co. in New London.
After 2½ years in business—and following an expansion last year—Goat Ridge is adding another 1,600 square feet onto the business.
The addition will create space for an expanded taproom, a bigger brewhouse and a bigger dance floor for their frequent live music shows and space for a farm-to-table restaurant.
“It’s a nice fit,” said Josh Reed, who owns Goat Ridge with his wife,

The GrandStay Hotel & Event Center Project at Little Crow Country Club is officially underway!
Plans for the 51-room hotel, 300-seat event center, 75-seat restaurant and new Little Crow Country Club clubhouse finalized in early 2017; however, it took longer than initially envisioned to complete the $2.35 million equity drive for the project. NEW LONDON—When the golfing season ends next week at the Little Crow Country Club, the construction season will begin.
A $7.8 million project will change the face of the popular New London area golf course and put it at a new level in the recreation and hospitality realm.

SPICER—On a bus ride from Paynesville to Spicer, Minnesota Transportation Commissioner Charles Zelle saw trucks hauling wind turbine blades south on Highway 23.
Zelle jokingly asked members of the Highway 23 Coalition Friday if they had arranged for those trucks so he could see the need for a four-lane state Highway 23 from Willmar to Interstate 94. The coalition hosted Zelle at a luncheon in Spicer and took him on tours of pending road projects, including the Willmar Wye.

WILLMAR—Customer sign-ups are underway as Consolidated Telecommunications Co. begins laying the groundwork to bring high-speed internet to rural north central Kandiyohi County.
The last in a series of meet-and-greet sessions on the project will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Dethlefs Center in Spicer. Representatives of the company will be on hand to provide information and answer questions. There also will be a chance to sign up for the service.
Commitments from future users will be important
As part of their year in review for 2016, New London and Spicer took a look at their respective building permits for last year, and both had relatively good years.
In 2016, New London approved 98 building permits for a total valuation of $18 million, city administrator Trudie Guptill said. Of that, $15 million in valuation was for New London-Spicer schools, which is in the midst of a $21.635 million building project.
