Willmar is a diverse, thriving and resilient community. The county seat and largest town in Kandiyohi County, Willmar is a regional center for business, healthcare, technology and shopping. Willmar is a micropolitan community and the fastest growing multicultural city outside the metro area.

The City of Willmar and Kandiyohi County make up the joint powers agreement that created the Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission through legislative action in 2003. In 2024, the organization became known as Kandiyohi County Economic Development (KCED). The City of Willmar and Kandiyohi County are integral in the development work we do.

The unified vision and goals created by the City of Willmar and Kandiyohi County reflect community service, engagement, and celebration with the support of business, childcare, broadband accessibility, ag innovation, and housing development.

KCED was created to encourage, attract, promote and develop economically sound industry and commerce. Today these foundations stay strong. The unified work of each individual entity and the work accomplished together reflects community service, engagement and celebration with the support of businesses, child care, broadband accessibility, ag innovation and housing development.
