WILLMAR — The Willmar City Council on Monday approved the acceptance of more than $460,000 across three grants related to the city’s wastewater treatment system, two of which are related to PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals.”
Willmar environmental specialist Sara Sietsema explained that PFAS are per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances that resist degradation by the environmental process. In 2022, the city of Willmar entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to collect and test four samples of wastewater effluent for PFAS.
