New London receives part of $17.6M grant

5.11.2015: NEW LONDON—The City of New London will receive nearly $418,000 in a state grant to rehabilitate homes and businesses in town.

The money is part of a $17.6 million Department of Employment and Economic Development grant that will be shared with 37 Minnesota communities, such as Appleton, Dawson, New London and Grove City.

“Fabulous,” is the word New London City Clerk Trudie Guptill used to describe the news, which was made public Monday.

Improvements and business growth: Survey takes pulse of Kandiyohi County business concerns

3.18.2015:  WILLMAR—Kandiyohi County business owners see the local quality of life as one of the county’s greatest assets.
Many of them have achieved quality improvements and business growth this past year, and they outshine both the region and the state in innovation.

Yet they often feel hampered by high taxes and regulatory burdens. They’re encountering workforce shortages. And the quality of life seen as one of Kandiyohi County’s strengths also is viewed as a liability for offering too few choices in shopping, dining, recreation and entertainment.

These findings and more were presented to the community Wednesday with the public release of a countywide business retention survey, conducted last year by the Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission and the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.

Rambow plans expansion in New London

10.28.2014:  NEW LONDON—Rambow Inc. of New London plans to invest more than $500,000 to expand its New London facility and increase its workforce. 

According to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, the department will assist in the expansion with an $84,000 grant from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund.

The company will receive the funding after meeting hiring and investment commitments.

Ziegler Caterpillar to open parts, sales facility in WillmarZiegler Cat logo

3.18.2015: WILLMAR—Ziegler Caterpillar is opening a parts and sales facility in Willmar, Minn., on April 20.

The building will carry parts and maintenance items for Caterpillar’s massive construction equipment, Lexion combines, hydraulic hoses and AGCO’s large ag equipment, which is made in Jackson, Minn., and Kansas. Terms were not disclosed.

A daily shuttle system will connect the Willmar facility with Ziegler’s 26 other locations, making sure of parts availability. The facility will also enable Ziegler’s field service technicians in the Willmar area to provide fast and efficient service at customer locations, company officials said.

Willmar area residents complete Blandin Community Leadership Program retreat

9.26.2014:  GRAND RAPIDS, MN—Twenty-five residents of the Willmar area returned September 19 from a five-day leadership retreat, the first segment of an intense eight-day training provided by the Blandin Community Leadership Program (BCLP). The team also will participate in follow-up workshops in December 2014 and February 2015.

A program of the Grand Rapids-based Blandin Foundation, BCLP has provided experiential leadership training for more than 6,000 community leaders from more than 425 rural Minnesota communities since it began in 1985.  This is the seventh time local residents have participated in the BCLP leadership program.
