Not only does Kandiyohi County have a thriving business economy, it is a destination for tourism and recreation thanks to the abundant lakes, parks and golf courses in the area. It has become a regional retail and food service hub because of the number of visitors who frequent the area.

Retail is the third largest industry in Kandiyohi County with more than 200 business establishments providing nearly 3,000 jobs.   Gross retail sales in the county top $770 million every year according to the latest US Census Bureau data.

Kandiyohi County has unique local businesses, such as Urban Escape, , Mel’s Sport Shop Guns & Gifts, Beauty Box Boutique and Glow by J Boutique. Located in Willmar are chain retailers like Kohl’s and Bath & Body Works; big box stores including Wal-Mart and Target and a new PetSmart, and numerous auto and boat dealerships make Kandiyohi County an attractive regional shopping destination.

Nearly $46 million is pumped into Kandiyohi County’s economy through the restaurant industry each year. Eating out is big business and Kandiyohi County has a restaurant to satisfy any craving. Locally-owned restaurants, coffee shops, breweries and wineries thrive alongside national chains.
