Willmar Municipal Airport

It was President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal Program that first brought an airport to Kandiyohi County in 1934. More than 80 years later, Willmar Municipal Airport-John L. Rice Field serves a busy Industrial Park and dozens of area companies. Since moving to its current location just two miles from the Industrial Park in 2006, the airport features three runways, hangar space and a terminal building with a 30-person meeting room, passenger waiting lounge, public restrooms, WiFi, a concession and vending area, free parking, flight planning area, pilot lounge and sleeping areas and a pilot shower/restroom. Aircraft services include fuel, maintenance, ramp area/tie downs and rental car assistance.

Dozens of area companies utilize Kandiyohi County’s air service, including Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Hormel Foods, BNSF Railway, Duininck Inc., Target Corporation, Wal-Mart Stores, the State of Minnesota, FedEx and the U.S. Army.

In 2013, Willmar Municipal Airport—John L. Rice Field became home to Life Link III, a helicopter ambulance emergency response and transport. Life Link III provides transport to and from various hospitals, as well as directly from accident sites.
